Känguru

Emergency care program “Känguru”

“Känguru” offers rapid assistance for FAU or UKER staff who live in Erlangen, the Erlangen-Höchstadt district or the Forchheim region whose children have suddenly become ill and who are unable to find anyone to look after their children at short notice. Staff only have to pay reduced rates of €6.50 an hour, travel expenses in the Erlangen and Forchheim regions are included. All other users pay the full amount of €17 per hour. In cases of social hardship, the child protection agency (Kinderschutzbund) in Erlangen may be able to make a contribution.

Due to the additional costs incurred, the following arrangement has been made for FAU staff who live in Nuremberg/Fürth and would like to use our Känguru service: the family requiring the services pays a contribution of €10 towards travel expenses for each time they make use of the services. In addition, one extra hour is billed in each instance to recompense the Känguru staff for their longer journey.

Childcare is provided by a team of trained and experienced childminders from DHB Netzwerk Haushalt, Ortsverein Erlangen e.V. The childminders come into your home, play with the children, help with homework and, if required, prepare meals.

Känguru is very much an emergency project. The intention is that the childminders are no longer than two or at the very most three days with each family. This ensures that as many families as possible can benefit.
