BaföG funding

The Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (BAföG, Federal Training Assistance Act) allows adolescents and young adults to complete training suited to their abilities and interests, even if their families or parents would not be able to finance this training.

Information on BAföG entitlement, the application procedure and BAföG payments is available on the website of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

NB: Students who take a leave of absence to care for children can apply for alternative funding via citizen’s benefit (Bürgergeld). In this case, however, students are not allowed to obtain any credits during their leave of absence. We would recommend consulting the Family Service to discuss your individual situation.
